Improve your chess with Silver Knights Tournament Training! Tournament Training is the best way for elementary and middle school chessplayers of all skill levels to work on their game and have fun.
Each week, students play a rated game against a player close to their skill level. Then the game is analyzed in a group setting by the players, other students, and a highly-rated chess coach. Beginning tournament players learn how to take chess notation, play with a clock, and the value of game analysis. Intermediate and advanced players get serious games against tough opposition, and analysis from master-level coaches.
Where: Silver Knights Chess, 701 W Broad Street, Suite 211, Falls Church, VA 22046
When: Sunday mornings from 9:30-11:30am. Tournament Training does not meet on major holiday weekends. See below for complete schedule of days off.
Who: This is a class for children ages 5-12 who are (or wish to become) tournament chessplayers.
What: Each week, the students will play a rated tournament game. After they play, they'll analyze their games with a coach.
Why: The best way to improve at chess is to study your own games with a better player. This way you can see what you did right and what you did wrong. By analyzing the game while it's fresh in your mind, you can still remember why you did what you did, and a strong coach can help show you what you should have been thinking about and what to do differently next time.
Also: Because the games are rated, all participants must be members of the US Chess Federation (the USCF). USCF memberships can be purchased when registering for Tournament Training online.
Cost: $99 per month, and every sixth month is free!
Q: Who are the coaches?
A: Currently, the Tournament Training coaches are Adam Weissbarth and Justin Rajsky. Adam is a National Chess Master and a Senior USCF Tournament Director rated in the 2200s. Adam has taught chess to thousands of children, including state and national champions. Justin is a full-time chess coach rated in the 1700s. He teaches hundreds of children every week, and is one of the most sought-after chess coaches in Northern Virginia.
Q: How does the billing work?
A: As long as you are a member of Tournament Training, your credit card will be charged $99 on the 1st of every month. You are then able to attend all class meetings that month.
Q: What if I have to miss a day? Can I get the fee pro-rated for that month?
A: We do not offer pro-rated fees. However, to compensate for inevitably missing a class now and then, every sixth month is free for all members!
Q: How do I register for Tournament Training?
A: You must register online for Tournament Training. We cannot accept payments on-site. There is no option for payment by mail or telephone.
