USCF Rating Report
On April 18, 44 chessplayers competed in the April Showers chess tournament at Wayne Elementary School. Atharva Deshpande won the tournament with a hard-fought 3.5/4 points in the K-12 Championship section, defeating Kevin Ouyang (3/4) in the last round. James Strommer (3/4) finished in third place after drawing Atharva in round 3 and then taking a last round bye.
Ben Verbofsky won the K-6 U/700 section with a 4-0 score. Springton Manor Elementary ran away with the team prize for the K-6 U/700 section.
The Spring Rumble on April 25 is our last individual scholastic tournament of the year. Players looking for more of a challenge can compete in the Friday Night Action tournaments in Bryn Mawr, and K-8 scholastic teams can play in the Team Tournament on May 30 in Wayne.
Atharva with his 1st-place trophy after winning the tournament. He really earned this trophy - in three of the four rounds, he was in the longest game of the round!
K-6 U/700 winner Ben with his trophy. Unfortunately for Ben, this result puts his rating up near 800 - no more U/700 sections for him!
