Tournament Results - Friday Night Action #5

USCF Rating Report

On Friday, May 15th, 22 people took part in the 5th Friday Night Action tournament.  The tournament was won by FM Rodion Rubenchik and Class A player Daniel Weissbarth, both with a perfect 4-0 score.  The under 2000 prize was won by Larry Saxby and Preston Ladson, both of whom had 3 victories and 1 loss.  The under 1600 prize was won by Patti Procopio, Gregory Thomas, and Jacob Leed with an even score of 2-2.

 
Tournament Results - Spring Rumble

Sixteen scholastic chessplayers competed at the 2009 Spring Rumble chess tournament. Atharva Deshpande of Upper Merion Middle School won his second straight tournament, this time with a perfect 4-0 score. Alexander Dornak (Chadds Ford Elementary), Carter Milano (Homeschooled), and Jonathan Feibusch (Newtown Elementary) tied for second place at 3-1. Jonathan and his brother Jacob won the team award for Newtown Elementary.

Tournament Results - April Showers

On April 18, 44 chessplayers competed in the April Showers chess tournament at Wayne Elementary School. Atharva Deshpande won the tournament with a hard-fought 3.5/4 points in the K-12 Championship section, defeating Kevin Ouyang (3/4) in the last round. James Strommer (3/4) finished in third place after drawing Atharva in round 3 and then taking a last round bye.

Ben Verbofsky won the K-6 U/700 section with a 4-0 score. Springton Manor Elementary ran away with the team prize for the K-6 U/700 section.

The Spring Rumble on April 25 is our last individual scholastic tournament of the year. Players looking for more of a challenge can compete in the Friday Night Action tournaments in Bryn Mawr, and K-8 scholastic teams can play in the Team Tournament on May 30 in Wayne.

Tournament Results - Friday Night Action #4

On Friday, April 17th, 16 people took part in the 4th Friday Night Action tournament.  The tournament winner, with a perfect 4-0 score, was NM and State Champion Peter Minear. The Under 2000 prize was won by Daniel Weissbarth who had 2 victories and 2 draws.  The Under 1800 prize was shared by Frank Jackson and Joseph Freiberg, both with a score of 2 out of 4.  Thanks to everyone who played in the tournament and we look forward to seeing all of you for Friday Night Action #5 on May 15th.

Tournament Results - Central Bucks

April 4 saw forty-one chessplayers compete in a small unrated tournament in Doylestown, PA. The Central Bucks School District just started using Silver Knights Chess after-school programs in January, and this tournament gave the students from the area a chance to compete against players from other schools. Full results, showing both the individual and team winners, are shown below.

Tournament Results - March Madness

Thirty-seven chessplayers competed in the 2009 March Madness K-12 chess tournament at Wayne Elementary School on March 28.

7th-grader Richard Wang of T/E Middle School went 4-0 in the Championship section, winning the tournament and gaining over 300 rating points. Richard was the lowest-rated player in the section, making his result even more impressive.

Gabriel Nadel, Jacob Guynee, and Oliver Henry tied for 2nd-4th place at 3-1 in the champ section.

In the K-6 U/700 section, Charlie McKenzie-Smith, a 5th-grader from Friends School Haverford, won all four games to take first place. Tying for 2nd-3rd with 3.5/4 points were Marcello Cesario and Kevin Ouyang. Springton Manor Elementary won the team prize, overtaking Pocopson Elementary in the last round.
