Tournament Results - State Warmup

USCF Rating Report

89 players competed in the 3rd Annual State Warmup chess tournament on Saturday, February 27, in King of Prussia, PA.  In the Championship section, Daniel Junh Lee went 4-0 to win 1st place.  Praneeth Denduluri, James Strommer, Jeffrey Zhang, Praneeth Ramesh, and Jerry Mangan finished 2nd-6th with 3-1 scores.  In the K-6/U700 section, both Eugene Naumovsky and Jamieson Wade went 4-0.  Eight other players went 3-1.  In the unrated 4-8 section, Neha Kothari went a perfect 4-0.  In the unrated K-3 section, Bryce Lee and Caleb Kim both went undefeated at 3-0.  Two players, Tyler Andorn and Zachary Hurchalla tied for 3rd at 2.5-0.5.  We wish everyone good luck at the Pennsylvania State Championship and look forward to seeing everyone at the 2010 Greater Philadelphia Scholastic Championships on March 20th!

Tournament Results - February Freeze

 Sixty-nine players competed in the February Freeze on Saturday, February 20.  Kevin Zhang won the rated section, going 4-0.  Akshaj Kadaveru, Camden Wiseman, and Theodore Faust all finished a half point back with three wins and a draw.  Nysmith School for the Gifted won the team competition, led by Kadaveru, and with help from Shwetark Patel and Ajit Kadaveru.

In the unrated section, Ravi Nuxoll and Alan Kittell both finished with perfect scores, which means that this is their last time in the unrated section.  Trailing them with three points each were Philip Onischuk, Sarah Moroney, Dan Ni, Ryan Carney, and Sayeed Akhtar.  The host school, the Montessori School of McLean, dominated the team competition, finishing 2½ points clear of the field.  Their three players, Moroney, Akhtar, and Joaqim Das, lost just one game out of nine!  (Pictures and unrated standings below the fold)

Tournament Results - Friday Night Action 14

Fourteen players met on February 19 in King of Prussia to decide the 14th monthly Friday Night Action chess tournament.  National Master Peter Minear won 1st place, going 4-0.  2nd and 3rd was split between Nathan Fisher and Chris Farmer, while Mike McCutchan won the prize for top Under 1000/Unrated.

 
Weather Update - February 12

Due to the weather, the Chess Bowl 2010 tournament will be canceled.  All participants can receive either a refund of the entry fee or have the entry fee applied to a future event.  Please let us know by email (click on the "Contact" button above).  Stay warm, everyone!
 
Weather Update - February 5

Due to snow, Radnor Townships Schools have closed for the weekend and the Chess Bowl 2010 tournament in Wayne, PA will NOT take place on Saturday, February 6. Instead, it will take place one week later, on Saturday, February 13.

Players have the choice of coming to the rescheduled event or receiving a refund on their entry fee. To receive a refund, simply use the "contact" button on the Silver Knights website to send us an email.

Additionally, all after-school chess clubs on Friday, February 5, are canceled and will be made up at a later date.

 
Tournament Results - Friday Night Action #13

Seventeen players competed in the 13th Friday Night Action tournament in King of Prussia, PA.  Adam Weissbarth took clear first with a 3.5-0.5 score in the Open section.  Max Wechsler and Chad Lueck split the U/1400 prize with each going 3.0-1.0.  Max and Chad both defeated higher rated opponents in the last round to claim the prize.

 
Tournament Results - January Joust

Seventy-three young chessplayers met up at Wayne Elementary School on January 23 for the January Joust chess tournament.  In the Championship section, Praneeth Denduluri went 4-0, with all four of his wins coming against players who finished in the top 5!  6 players tied for 2nd at 3-1.  In the K-6/U700 section, Abhinav Ratnagiri went 4-0, with 8 players going 3-1.  In the K-3 Unrated section, Divyan Jain went 4-0 to take first place.  Arnold Tiglao, Seth Whigham, and Benjamin Kilroy all scored 3-1 to tie for first in the Unrated 4-8 section.
