USCF Rating Report
Twenty-eight chessplayers competed in the 2009 June Mirage chess tournament in Bryn Mawr on Saturday, June 27. Sawyer West and R.J. King tied for first place in the Championship section with scores of 3.5/4, with Sawyer taking 1st place on tiebreaks. Ellana Gaines finieshed in third place with a score of 3/4.
In the K-6 U/700 section, Praneeth Ramesh won all four games to finish in first place. Tying for 2nd-7th place were Tomyra Wilson, Tom McKenzie-Smith, Brandon Kedson, Ankur Bamezai, Jackson Milano, and Howard Fu with scores of 3/4.
Our next tournaments are the 7th Friday Night Action on July 17 and the K-12 July Joust tournament on July 25.

USCF Rating Report
Expert Christopher Pumarejo scored 3.5 out of 4 to win the 6th Friday Night Action tournament on June 12, 2009. Pennsylvania State Champion Peter Minear, FM Rodion Rubenchik, and expert Joseph Mucerino all tied for second place with 3 out of 4 points. The Under 1800 prize was won by Elliott Lueck with a score of 1.5 out of 4 points.

Thirty-two teams of four players each competed in our second school team tournament, held on May 30 at Wayne Elementary School. The tournament champion, for the second straight time, was The Philadelphia School, winning first and third place with their two teams. Coming in second place was Ithan Elementary, and Springton Manor, the only other school to win at least three out of four possible matches, came in fourth.
Our next team tournament is in November - we look forward to seeing you all there!

On Friday, May 15th, 22 people took part in the 5th Friday Night Action tournament. The tournament was won by FM Rodion Rubenchik and Class A player Daniel Weissbarth, both with a perfect 4-0 score. The under 2000 prize was won by Larry Saxby and Preston Ladson, both of whom had 3 victories and 1 loss. The under 1600 prize was won by Patti Procopio, Gregory Thomas, and Jacob Leed with an even score of 2-2.

Sixteen scholastic chessplayers competed at the 2009 Spring Rumble chess tournament. Atharva Deshpande of Upper Merion Middle School won his second straight tournament, this time with a perfect 4-0 score. Alexander Dornak (Chadds Ford Elementary), Carter Milano (Homeschooled), and Jonathan Feibusch (Newtown Elementary) tied for second place at 3-1. Jonathan and his brother Jacob won the team award for Newtown Elementary.

Tournament Results - April Showers |

USCF Rating Report
On April 18, 44 chessplayers competed in the April Showers chess tournament at Wayne Elementary School. Atharva Deshpande won the tournament with a hard-fought 3.5/4 points in the K-12 Championship section, defeating Kevin Ouyang (3/4) in the last round. James Strommer (3/4) finished in third place after drawing Atharva in round 3 and then taking a last round bye.
Ben Verbofsky won the K-6 U/700 section with a 4-0 score. Springton Manor Elementary ran away with the team prize for the K-6 U/700 section.
The Spring Rumble on April 25 is our last individual scholastic tournament of the year. Players looking for more of a challenge can compete in the Friday Night Action tournaments in Bryn Mawr, and K-8 scholastic teams can play in the Team Tournament on May 30 in Wayne.
