Philadelphia Area Chess Tournaments
Most of our chess tournaments have several sections to break the participants into groups by age and/or rating. Click the "register here" button for a tournament to see what options are available at that event. In particular, tournaments that offer Unrated sections are great for less experienced players in grades K-6. At scholastic tournaments, trophies are awarded to the top individuals and teams. At open tournaments, cash prizes are given. Most sections in our tournaments are USCF-Rated. To see more information or to register online, click the "Register Here" button for the tournament you are interested in attending.
If you are a new chess parent or have questions about the tournament process, feel free to browse through our Tournament FAQs or contact us.
Our Friday Night Action adult tournaments are usually held one Friday per month. They are open to chessplayers of all ages, and typically include skill levels from beginning elementary school students up through some of the best adult players in the state.
Quads tournaments are smaller and faster than regular events. Players are broken up into groups of 4 by rating (if they are rated) or age (if they are not rated). Each player gets a game against each of the other 3 players in the group. At the end of the last game, the top-scoring player in each quad gets a trophy.
Online registration for most weekend events is available until noon the Friday before the tournament. To get the lowest entry fee, register early and online. On-site registration is available at all tournaments at an increased fee.
Our scholastic tournaments feature free analysis of student games for all players by either National Master Peter Minear or National Master Adam Weissbarth.
