Hello [NAME]
We hope that all of our scholastic chessplayers out there are having a great summer. Congratulations go out to all of our tournament winners: Jerry Li, Aaron Lee, Kevin Zhou (winner of three tournaments over the summer!), and Andrew Luo.
The first all-day Silver Knights Chess Workshop was held on July 27 at the Bryn Mawr Community Center. IM Bryan Smith and NM Adam Weissbarth taught 15 students, ranging in strength from 200 up to 1700+. Due to the success of this workshop, we are making it a monthly event, usually to be held on the last Sunday of each month.
Our fall tournament schedule will include more tournaments than ever before, as well as a brand-new team tournament on November 15. The team tournament will feature four-player school teams and will be unrated. Each school team will play four matches against other schools. The winner of each match will be the team that wins 2.5 or more games out of the the 4 played against the other school. Trophies will be given to the top schools and individuals. Because the tournament is unrated, this is a great chance for schools with only one or two rated players to send a team and try out a chess tournament for the first time.
We also have many new instructional chess videos coming out this month, including:
- More of IM Bryan Smith's games from the World Open
- More opening analysis, including the Two Knight's Defense and the Scandinavian Defense
- How to use a space advantage in the middlegame
Here is a schedule of upcoming tournaments in the fall:
September 20: Horsham, PA
September 27: Swiftwater, PA (Poconos)
October 4: Devon, PA
October 18: TBD (West Chester area)
October 25: Devon, PA
November 1: Mt. Laurel, NJ
