The 2009 chess season is underway and there are many exciting events to look forward to in the spring. First, let's congratulate the players and winners from our first three events of the year:
Friday Night Action #1: FIDE Master Rodion Rubenchik won this open event. beating out state champion NM Peter Minear and expert Joe Mucerino.
Winter Blast: Austin Henninger won the K-12 Champ section, Jeremy Miller and Praneeth Ramesh won the K-6 U/700, and Friends School Haverford won the team prize.
February Freeze: Torin Kuehnle (a 1st-grader!) won the K-12 Champ, Ian Stevens and Marcello Cesario won the K-6 U/700, and Springton Manor won the team prize.

February 20: Friday Night Action #2 (Open to kids and adults)
February 22: Chess Workshop
February 28: State Warm-Up (Open to grades K-12)
March 7-8: PA State K-12 Championships
March 20: Friday Night Action #3 (Open to kids and adults)
March 21: Greater Philadelphia Scholastic Championships (K-12)
March 29: Chess Workshop
The Greater Philadelphia Scholastic Championships on March 21 will be a bigger tournament with a different format. Trophies will be up to three feet tall (!) and every player in grades K-3 will receive at least a participation trophy. Also, Pennsylvania state champion NM Peter Minear will be on hand to analyze games for the players.
