Hello [NAME]
As 2009 begins, we can look forward to some great chess events in the new year. First, though, a recap of a few of the big happenings of 2008:
- Benjamin Lu and Kevin Zhou are our first two national champions. Both players competed in the 2008 scholastic championships in Florida. Ben went 7-0 and took clear first in the 1st grade section, while Kevin went 6-1 to tie for first place in the 2nd grade section.
- The first-ever Silver Knights team chess tournament was held at Beaumont Elementary School. Eighty players competed against each other, with The Philadelphia School A team emerging victorious as the only undefeated school.
- Our after-school scholastic chess program expanded to even more schools throughout the Philadelphia suburbs. We now teach in the school districts of Methacton, Perkiomen Valley, Lower Moreland, Tredyffrin/Easttown, Downingtown, Unionville-Chadds Ford, Radnor, Upper Merion, Great Valley, Cherry Hill, as well as many private schools.
Here’s what’s coming up in 2009:
- Friday Night Action tournaments: a brand-new series of tournaments for adults and stronger scholastic chessplayers, beginning on January 23.
- Big scholastic events: PA State Warm-Up on February 28, PA Scholastic Championships on March 7-8, and Greater Philadelphia Scholastic Championships on March 21.
- After-school programs opening up in new districts, including Central Bucks, Medford, Voorhees, and Colonial.
We hope you all had a great holiday season and a happy new year!
Regards,
